The municipality of Raša is a unit of local self-government in the area determined by the Act on areas of counties, cities and municipalities in the Republic of Croatia.The Raša Municipality includes the following settlements: Barbići, Brgod, Brovinje, Sveti Lovreč Labinski, Crni, Drenje, Koromačno, Krapan, Kunj, Letajac, Most Raša, Polje, Raša, Ravni, Skitača, Stanišovi,
Sveta Marina, Sveti Bartul, Škvaranska, Topid, Trget, Trgetari, Viškovići. In order to achieve a common interest in the improvement of the economic, social and cultural development, the Municipality of Raša can establish and maintain cooperation with other units
local governments in the country and abroad.
The mining activity of Raša area dates back to the 17th century, during the Venetian administration, because the first known concession for coal mining in the Krapna valley dates back to 1626. Continuous coal production took place during the 18th century with about forty miners producing about 560 tons of coal per year. By the end of 2019. municipality of Raša obtained confirmation of the main mining project for the arrangement and repurposing of the Karlota mine for touristic purposes. This created the conditions to start with the first phase of investment which ensured the safety and technical conditions for the entry of visitors into the 1.5 kilometer passable mining tunnel with an entrance and exit in the very center of Raša.
The purpose of collaboration between Municipality of Raša and Higher Education Institutions is enable the students from various geosciences the expert mine visit with an opportunity to conduct field work and research for the pursposes of master thesis or seminar work.
