Can such a discovery reduce investment costs and increase the willingness of big tech/oil and gas companies to invest in geothermal projects without fear of investment loss? The best answers could come from innovative exploration strategies to achieve the energy transition target.
My personal career move is driven by the renewed global focus on the potential for geothermal energy to play a greater role in the energy transition. Seeking the necessary skills and knowledge in sustainably exploring and exploiting critical energy minerals from rocks and geothermal sources while utilizing the energy is important for achieving the objectives of the energy transition.
As a curious student, the questions in my mind are: what can we possibly find in the process of deep geothermal drilling or during innovative ore recovery strategies? Where can they be found in significant quantities and by what process are they formed?
The world is going green, and nations are working towards cutting carbon emissions. The impact of climate change is visible in the poorest communities. Looking around, the greatest need of the people is a clean and sustainable energy source. Geothermal energy is yet to be explored to an extent; even in countries seated on one of the active volcanic lines in the world.
As traditional oil and gas companies look for clean energy investment opportunities, there is a high level of interest from subsurface technical specialists who are keen to learn and demonstrate how their knowledge and skills can be applied in this growth area. i am excited about the new opportunities arising and the global push to meet climate change targets, yet I still have to answer where I fit as a geologist in contributing innovative strategies in exploration. With the launch of the United Nations ‘Race to Zero’, a global campaign to rally leadership and support from businesses, cities, investors, and universities for a healthy, resilient, zero-carbon recovery, and the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow, I am focused on the actions needed to reach the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. in any of these companies, i will be focused and learn how to generate new ideas that can be beneficial in this regard.
on a wider scale, I will focus on sea geothermal fields, which are a primary source of renewable energy. Besides being a thermal resource, brines of some geothermal systems are rich in lithium that can be extracted as alternative renewable energy sources. The questions surrounding the viability of long-term economic production of lithium could be the distribution of lithium in minerals and rocks through which brines percolate. I will also be looking at the possibility of finding lithium hosts in the solid rock record in these geothermal fields. how can this formation be related to lithium formation in the mcdemitt caldera and takapass projects and other areas around the world. These research questions could be future answers to areas like Africa and Europe. My dream is to gain this expertise and kick-start lith'0re, an innovative start-up for a sustainable critical mineral sourcing via innovative exploration for the energy transition.
I am looking forward to bring innovations through skills acquired from the TIMREX program and internships, which is at the forefront of building future leaders in the innovative exploration sector. This internship will broaden my scope and challenge my perspectives in a diverse way, given the entrepreneurial and purpose-driven strategy. Emerging successful is a great step towards my career goals, and I will take this not only as an honor but as an obligation for hard work.
