Motivation letter (max. 1500 characters with spaces) Dear Admission committee,
I am writing to convey my keen interest in the RIS Internship 2023 programme, with a particular focus on the domain of material solutions design. After careful consideration of the objectives outlined for the internship programme, I am confident that my educational background, professional experience, and passion for sustainable engineering render me a fitting candidate for this opportunity.
The Circular Economy Action Plan of the European Union highlights the significant importance of material selection and design choices in determining the environmental and raw material effects of products. It is crucial to adopt a holistic approach to solution design, taking into account the entire life cycle of a product, from raw material supply to innovative materials, and product design for circularity, as up to 80% of a product's environmental footprint is determined during the design stage. As a chemical engineer committed to promoting sustainability in materials engineering, I strongly identify with this approach.
During my time as a process engineer at a refinery, I have acquired significant experience as a chemical engineer. As part of my responsibilities, I engaged in the active pursuit of process optimization to facilitate the development of sustainable materials. I addressed multiple challenges related to refining operations, including waste reduction, energy conservation, and the adoption of environmentally-friendly technologies. The aforementioned experiences have enhanced my proficiency in problem-solving and fostered a fervent interest in developing ecologically sustainable material resolutions. In addition, my academic qualifications in the field of chemical engineering have provided me with a strong foundation to comprehend the complexities of material characteristics, production techniques, and eco-friendly design principles. I have gained a comprehensive understanding of the environmental impact of material choices through my academic coursework and practical projects. I am enthusiastic about utilising this knowledge to address real-world situations.
Participating in the RIS Internship Programme would offer me an optimal opportunity to advance my skills and make valuable contributions towards the advancement of sustainable materials solutions. I am enthusiastic about the prospect of working in a systemic manner, taking into account not only technical aspects but also business models, policy measures, and educational methodologies. Attending a university in a foreign country (TU Wroclaw) has significantly improved my communication abilities and refined my capacity to collaborate effectively within diverse teams. Working alongside students from diverse cultural backgrounds has provided me with valuable insights into the importance of embracing varied perspectives and collaborating towards shared objectives. I strongly believe that effective communication and teamwork are crucial elements for successful projects. I am enthusiastic about contributing my skills in this regard to the RIS internship programme. In addition, my extensive research experience across diverse fields highlights my ability to effectively adapt to varying scientific contexts. I have had the privilege of exploring various subjects in the field of chemical engineering, such as sustainable materials, process optimization, and renewable energy. This experience has not only expanded my knowledge but also improved my capacity to swiftly comprehend novel concepts and implement them in practical situations. Based on my adaptability and research experience, I believe that I am a strong candidate for the RIS Internship programme, given its interdisciplinary nature and associated challenges. Attending an international university has significantly improved my communication skills and refined my proficiency in collaborating with diverse teams. Working alongside students from diverse cultural backgrounds has provided me with valuable insights into the importance of embracing varying perspectives and collaborating towards shared objectives. I am of the opinion that effective communication and teamwork play a vital role in driving successful projects.
