Calamites Kft. was founded by mining engineers in 1995 as an engineering office. The main activity of our company at the time of its founding was coal mining and coal sales, which it carried out during the operation of the leased mine in Szászvár. After that, engineering became the main profile in our company. Part of the income of our well-prospering company was spent on obtaining and maintaining coal mining licenses, which we still hold today. Our current main field of activity is mining and energy research, development, planning and organization. Our company also received ISO 9001:2008 certification. One of our most outstanding jobs was the direct participation in the geological research of the low- and medium-radioactivity waste storage facility being built for the Paks Nuclear Power Plant in Bátaapáti. Our company has significant professional knowledge and extensive domestic and international capital. We focus primarily on monitoring solutions for the separation and utilization of CO2 as a raw material, as well as the utilization of inert materials as heat storage or building materials. We pay a lot of attention to examining the extractability of critical elements and rare earth metals. Our company, Calamites Kft., owns the mining rights and the possibility of theoretical extraction of significant coal assets. In the administrative area of Nagymányok, we obtained mining plots with the trademark "Nagymány-I. coal" and the right to explore for coal with the trademark "Máza-Dél-Váralja-Dél", in order to recycle the nearly 450 million tons of geological assets. The consistent application of the theory of the circular economy enables compliance with the strictest emission and waste management standards, but at the same time ensures the possibility of economic operation. An approved geological final report was prepared for the Máza-Dél-Váralja Dél area. GEOS Freiberg/Germany, involved in the work, approved the content of the report. Our company. instead of uneconomic coal combustion, modern coal processing technology - e.g. gasification - advocates its introduction Our company is a member and active contributor to the Mecsek Mining Cluster and the Hungarian Mining Association

Interns assignments/tasks
  • Beyond Coal: Developing the Uneconomical Nagymányok Hard Coal Deposit as a Source of Critical Elements The Eastern-Mecsek Mountains hosts a large Jurassic hard coal basin, with numerous occurrences, none of them is productive recently. Nagymanyok is an undeveloped hard coal deposit in the northern flank of the coal basin. After opening a pit for production in the late 1990s, it was abandoned due to complex tectonic conditions leading to excessive mining loss and dilution. The coal basin has been known to host significant enrichments of minor elements, including critical elements from the 2020 list of the EU Raw Materials group. These are: Be, Ge, Nb, Ta, REE, Zr, Hf. These anomalous concentrations were also found at Nagymanyok, although data are not sufficient to define the extent of. An approved Hungarian R+D project starts in 2023 with the aim of developing joint processing technology for both coal and the adjacent sedimentary rocks to prepare them for coal gasification and simultaneous minor element recovery. The candidate should take parts of the preparation. Within this work three focus areas were outlined: - Reconstruction and updating the geological spatial databse - Remodelling the resources of the coal deposit for integrated energy and minor element production; - Addressing the most important environmental risks of these newly developed technologies. The results will form a part of the support study prepared to give basis of the feasibility study and EIA for strategic raw material recovery from coals, adjacent sediments and by-products. The candidate will do field work to control assay results and build 3D geological model of the existing historic exploration documents
